People (Humans)

Mammals

  1. All mammals have hair or fur at some stage of life.
  2. Bats are the only mammals that can truly fly.
  3. Giraffes have the same number of neck bones as humans. Both have 7 vertebrae giraffes’ are just much longer.
  4. Dolphin sleep with one half of their brain at a time, so they can keep breathing and stay alert.

Amphibians

  1. They usually start life as larvae (like tadpoles) and go through Metamorphosis.
  2. They can breathe through their skin as well as lungs.
  3. Axolotl can regrow lost body parts, like legs and even parts of its heart.
  4. Many amphibians, like the Poison dart frog, have toxic skin that protects them from predators.

Fish

  1. Most fish are cold-blooded.
  2. Some fish can glow in the dark (bioluminescence).
  3. Shark have existed for over 400 million years, even before dinosaurs.
  4. Some fish, like the Flying fish, can glide above water for short distances.

Plants

  1. Plants make their own food using Photosynthesis wich gives us oxygen.
  2. Trees can live for thousands of years.
  3. Some plants can move, like the Mimosa pudica, which closes its leaves when touched.
  4. Plants can respond to light using a process called Phototropism.

Other Organisms (Bacteria, Fungi, etc.)

  1. Some bacteria can live in extreme environments like hot springs.
  2. Fungi are more closely related to animals than plants.
  3. Some fungi are used to make foods like bread and cheese.
  4. Microorganisms are everywhere, even inside your body.
